Gov’t replaces thieving principal

From Michael Ndi in Bamenda

The government has in a recent edition appointed a new principal to Government Technical College, GTC Ntong, to take over from the detained former principal, Stephen Ntokungia.
The appointment barely weeks to school resumption comes after the attempted broad day light looting of school property worth 30MFCFA by the detained principal of Government Technical College, GTC Ntong, Stephen Ntokungia last July.
The member of parliament for Nwa, Hon. Genesis Mbucksek told this reporter that last July, some Ntong indigenes observed a suspicious move in GTC Ntong by the principal and some drivers. “Knowing that some school items were recently received from the 2014 public investment budget (PIB) in GTC Ntong, I alerted the police in Nwa to follow-up the principal closely”.
Hon. Mbucksek noted that at the end, some vehicles and motorcycles were intercepted with the new school equipments which were sent to GTC Ntong-Nwa.
After this break through, the doubtful principal was apprehended and in the presence of the D.O for Nwa, he acknowledged the misdeed, praying that he should be forgiven on grounds that it was his first time to commit such an offence. The thieving principal however claimed he was the one who lobbied for the projects to be inserted in the PIB log book. He added that the equipments which were meant for GTC Ntong Home Economic centre included computers, gas cookers and some accessories.
From the police station where the suspect principal had spent a few nights, he was transferred to the Nkambe prison where he is currently awaiting trial. According to Hon. Genesis Mbucksek, the chief of works of GTC Ntong was equally involved in the siphoning of the school properties. “If the laws of this country are to be applied to the least, then the principal (Ntonkungia Stephen) must be jailed. This is how people disgrace government and turn around to discredit our illustrious head of state, president Paul Biya.”
The MP disclosed that security information indicates Ntonkungia Stephen has a school in his native land of Ndop, and a documentation centre at Foncha junction, Bamenda which he was suspected to have been transferring the equipment to.
At press time, another principal was already transferred to GTC Ntong as the former is languishing at the Nkambe Prison. During the sector conference marking the launching of the 2014/2015 academic year in the North West region last Tuesday August 26, 2014, the regional delegate for secondary education, Shey Sunjo George, warned principals against the stealing of school property like what obtained at GTC Ntong-Nwa
