From Michael Ndi in Bamenda
The former divisional officer of Santa, Mbinglo
Francis; a kidney patient of the Bamenda haemodialysis centre, has cried out
over the complete damage of the machines of the centre due to the expiration of
their lifespan.
Talking at the North West governor’s office last
Tuesday November 12, during a strike
staged by the 63 patients of the haemodialysis centre, the former DO disclosed
that because of the breakdown of the machines, a total of 20 kidney patients
died within 3 months at the centre.
Addressing the incensed patients who earlier in the
morning of November 12, held Bamenda Finance junction hostage; blocking
traffic, the North West regional delegate of public health, Ndiforchu Victor
assured them that government had already listened to their plights, reason why
brand new spare parts of the dialysis machines had been ordered from France.
Earlier in an exclusive interview with The Guardian Post, the director of the
Bamenda regional hospital, Dr. Kinge Thompson Njie explained that the centre’s
machines were installed since 2009 and have all attended their lifespan. “So
the centre now needs new machines,” he stated.
He said the haemodialysis centre is a special gift
president Paul Biya gave to the people of the North West and West regions, although
people are admitted there from beyond the two regions, including others who
come in from Europe and America for holidays.
As if to confirm what the former DO said, the
publisher of Cameroon Post International newspaper, Sama Steve who was a kidney
patient at the Bamenda haemodialysis centre died in the evening of Tuesday,
November 12, when his colleagues were on strike.
