The former Nigerian vice president, Atiku Abubakar who on
November 24, 2012 celebrated his 66th birthday has been hailed as a
God-sent messiah to Nigeria in particular and Africa in general. Among the
several dignitaries and media men from Africa and around the world who
converged on Yola-Nigeria to take part in the birthday party was the Publisher/Editor
of The Guardian Post newspaper, Ngah Christian Mbipgo.
Ngah, it must be said, was the only Cameroonian journalist
who was present at the birthday anniversary that held at the American
University of Nigeria Hotel premises in Yola, Adamawa State.
The former Ugandan vice president, a senior official from
the Rotary International, heads of diplomatic missions in Nigeria, several
former Nigerian ministers and foreign dignitaries were also in Yola to
celebrate the birthday of the man who is described the world over as an extra
ordinary man of men and leader of leaders.
Given his unmatched contribution to democracy, peace,
development and education in Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar’s birthday ceremony was
covered and broadcast live on several Nigerian TV channels including the state
TV, the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA.
Several of Atiku’s children appeared on a giant screen that
was installed at the ceremony not only to wish him good health, many more years
and God’s richest protection but also to thank God for blessing them and
Nigerians in general with such a loving and caring father.
In a brief welcome speech at the ceremony, Peter Okocha, an
industrialist, CEO of Peter Okocha Motors and board member of AUN described
Atiku Abubakar as a development luminary, peace-crusader, philanthropist, a
role model and a father to the fatherless. He wondered aloud what Nigeria would
have been like without Atiku Abubakar and urged both Nigerians and world
leaders to emulate Atiku’s love and concern for humanity; irrespective of their
state or country of origin. He said Atiku Abubakar’s achievements and legacies
will remain beneficial and visible for several generations of Nigerians to
come.
The assistant vice president of public relation and
communication at the American University of Nigeria-AUN, Abubakar Abba Tahir
said this of Atiku Abubakar “We have come to pay tribute to the gallantry of an
extraordinary man of destiny… we have come to honour his life, his name, his fame
and most importantly his ever flourishing dream for humanity”.
