Rotary International honours Atiku Abubakar

Meanwhile in an earlier ceremony that proceeded his 66th birthday ceremony, Atiku Abubakar who is also the founder of Africa’s premier development University, the American University of Nigeria (AUN) was honoured by Rotary International for his unmatched contribution and donations to the organization. A senior representative from the organization who handed him an acknowledgement certificate described Atiku Abubakar as one of the most generous men in the world and hailed his unending contribution to Rotary International’s great leap forward.

What Nigerians think and say about Atiku Abubakar
Atiku Abubakar who served as governor of Adamawa State and later as the vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 1999 – 2007 is considered in Nigeria as a God-sent leader, the voice of the voiceless, father of the fatherless, a humble leader, philanthropist and a man of the people.
Many Nigerians we spoke to in Abuja, Lagos, Onitsha and Yola were unanimous that Atiku Abubakar is an unusual man of history whose vision has created one of the most robust, diverse and fast-expanding global community of educators, learners and professional administrators. He is also being hailed as an extraordinary man of destiny with uncommon passion for human stability, security and prosperity.
Thanks to Atiku Abubakar, sunshine and laughter have come to many Nigerian homes that knew only sorrow. Said an Abuja resident “we have drank so much from H.E Atiku’s endless pool of magnanimity, his accommodating fountain of generosity, his lavish nest of philanthropy and indeed his large pond of boundless goodwill”.
Widely-acclaimed as an extra-ordinary man of men and leader of leaders for his transparent love for all men, Atiku Abubakar was during activities marking the 50th anniversary of the American Peace Corps in Washington in September 2011 described in the following words which read in part “No private businessman in Africa has worked harder for democracy or contributed more to higher education than Atiku Abubakar”.
Atiku Abubakar, it should be said, has already declared his intention to run for the Nigerian presidency in the 2015 presidential election. Given Atiku Abubakar’s growing popularity that cuts across Nigeria, popular opinion tip him favorite and the most likely able Goodluck Jonathan successor.
