Down score: Issa Tchiroma Bakary, FNSC chairman

Communication minister, government spokesman and the leader of the Cameroon National Salvation Front (FNSC) party, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, is once again in the spotlight. After the jailed former minister of territorial administration and decentralization, Marafa Hamidou Yaya, presented him not too long ago as having soiled hands as far as the December 1991 Douala plane crash was concerned, Tchiroma’s blood brother recently made a gesture which reveals the minister as greedy and self-centred.
Hassana Tchiroma, a retired customs officer and member of the FNSC, has quit the latter party and joined the Social Democratic Front (SDF) owing to what he calls his brother’s high-handedness and unwillingness to share.
To Hassana, Issa is unnecessarily callous and evil given that he eats alone while the other members of the FNSC languish in desperation.
This is a veritable slap in the face of the Communication minister and an indirect confirmation of the declaration made by Marafa that Issa Tchiroma is a man of double standards. If it is his own blood brother who quits a party that both of them formed and joins another one, then the matter is really serious.
Hassana’s decision comes on the heels of squabbles within the FNSC which led to his dismissal from the party for alleged indiscipline. But he told the press that his brother dismissed him not because he was truly indiscipline, but due to his (Marafa’s) determination to show President Paul Biya that he could go to any length to support him.
In other words, it is a subtle way that Issa Tchiroma Bakary is using to implore the head of state to forget the accusations made against him by Marafa.
It is indeed so sad that one’s own brother could lose confidence in one in such a manner; that the government spokesman allowed himself to be made to fall so low in the eyes of the public. For this reason, Issa Tchiroma earns our disgraceful down score of 2/10.
