Supreme state audit axe falls on 11 officials

The finance and disciplinary commission of the supreme state audit has found some 11 officials guilty of gross management errors and misappropriation of public funds.
Going by an official statement signed on Monday, July 14, by the president of the finance and disciplinary commission, cum minister delegate at the presidency in charge of the supreme state audit, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, the errors are those discovered by the commission between the period - January 18 to July 3, 2014.
According to the communiqué, a copy of which The Guardian Post obtained, the commission took the decision to indict some managers of state enterprises after holding four ordinary sessions and tree special sessions.
Concerned personalities
For some of the cases, the supreme state audit found the mayor of Moloundou in the East region, guilty of irregularities in the execution of the council’s budget between 2002 and 2008. The commission retained that the mayor had 10 management errors; with 7 related to financial misappropriation. In this light, the mayor was ordered to pay 308 079 548 FCFA into the council’s account and 2 000 000 FCFA as damages.
Also, the director of the geological and mines research institute, IRGM was found to have loopholes in the management of state subvention for the first quarter in 2005. As such, he was fined 500 000 FCFA as damages.
Another case was that of the former sub- district medical officer for Campo in the South region, who was found wanting in managing the hospital’s budget between 2002 and 2007. Charged with intent to defraud the hospital of over 771 550, the former medical officer was ordered to pay 200 000 FCFA into the
State treasury.
The other persons who came under scrutiny and sanctions were: the former engineer in charge of control and follow up at the erstwhile provincial delegation of custom and lands for the North, the former service head of public works for Abong-Mbang, the ex-principal of GTHS Bafoussam, the former principal of GTHS Foumban, the erstwhile and current directors of the Multi Purpose Youth Centre of Domayo in Maroua, the principal of GTHS Betare-Oya and the ex-chief of bureau for construction in the sub-divisional delegation of public works for Betare-Oya.
