Salaries of absentee teachers to be suspended

From Che Bruno Azenyui in Buea

Administrative and teaching staff of government schools who abandon their duty may soon have their salaries suspended. This decision was taken by the South West regional delegate of secondary education Ngundu Francis Mokomba last Thursday august 28th 2014 at the regional sector conference for secondary education. The delegate while frowning at the complicity of some government school principals in the abandonment of classes by their staff promised zero tolerance to these teachers come September 2014.
“The phenomenon must be checked scrupulously by principals and divisional delegates and reported immediately schools reopen so that measures can be taken for unduly earned salaries to be suspended” Ordered the delegate.
Ngundu Emmanuel equally frowned at the many “ugly activities” that continue to plague secondary education in the region such as the manipulation of school enrolment statistics by principals for selfish reasons, the registration of internal candidates in external centers in official exams and the meddling of school principals into funds meant for P.T.A projects.
While appreciating the place of education in the advancement of society, south west governor Bernard Okalia Billai promised his support to the entire education family in the region. He enjoined the educationist to put in effort to improve on the quantity and quality of education in the region. He cautioned the teachers to be more dedicated and committed to their job and avoid absenteeism as it deprives the students of their deserved knowledge  “ we don’t study for the sake of study but for life” he added.
