Balikumbat gets new Fon

Theophile Bumlangmi has been crowned new fon of Balikumbat with the title Fon Gah Nyamsi III. He was enthroned last Sunday in Balikumbat by seven kingmakers led by Doh Pelo.

After  the ‘disappearance’ of Fon Doh Gwanyin last month, controversy had erupted following who his heir would be, considering that the SDO for Ngoketunjia, Norbert Kuela Valeri sent out a communiqué implying that the new fon could be chosen from interested candidates.

“The new fon is the people’s choice and we have readily accepted him to be one of us in the union” declared the president general of the North West Fon’s Union, Fon Teche Njie during Fon Gah Nyamsi III’s presentation to the public. He equally commended the kingmakers for their picking, which according to him is a “good choice”.

Amid the crowd that turned out for his enthronement, Emmanuel Banmi, MP for Balikumbat declared“I was highly-amazed that over 10.000 people from all over the country came to witness this public presentation of our new fon, including the former prime minister, Simon Achidi Achu. The over 50 fons from NOWEFU attest to the magnitude of this solemn ceremony”.

He equally saluted the kingmakers and population for remaining peaceful during the period of grief, saying “God had through the kingmakers made a good choice for the Balikumbat people”.
