Those men who rape animals…

The North West region for quite some time now has continued to experience unprecedented zoophilia otherwise known as bestiality to the astonishment of all and sundry.

Zoophillia or bestiality according to the 6th edition of the world’s best-selling Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary refers to a sexual activity between a human being and an animal. This outlandish act could aptly be described as rape given that men perform the act without the consent of the speechless and helpless animals like pigs, sheep and goats who always fall prey to the rape. This columnist gathered that bestiality is not unconnected to occultism or insatiable quest for sex by some men.

It is reported that most often, in a bid to get-rich-quick or have extra powers, some men order magic rings from India which are usually occupied by letters giving them instructions to make love with their close relations like mothers, sisters or even daughters including animals.  Some are even ordered to go nude in broad day light or appear nude at the centre of the market at midnight, failure of which they would face consequences like madness and death amongst others.

Bestiallity cases abound in the North West region and beyond. In 2012, a South West-based newspaper carried a front page story with a young man making love to a goat. Three weeks ago, another youth was caught red-handed at Mile III Nkwen-Bamenda making love with someone’s pig. A similar phenomenon took place at Belo, Boyo division, when one of the youths was spotted doing same to a goat.

 Sometimes in 2007, a secondary school teacher was equally arrested by the forces of law and order at Level Land Kumbo in Bui division after he was caught making love to a pig. The owner of the pig who hailed from Noni sub-division gave tough conditions for the teacher to regain his liberty. He demanded 200,000FCFA as ‘bride price’ for the pig turned wife, 2000FCFA for kegs of palm wine, 10,000FCFA for a tin of palm oil and 1000FCFA for kolanuts. The man coughed out the amounts instantly and was allowed to go away with the pig to I don’t know where.

This rampant and bestiality is happening at the time that human rights organizations and the western world have not only okayed homosexuality and lesbianism but putting threats on Africans to do same in the name of respecting human rights.

Although there’s widespread fear that the western world and human rights may in like manner endorse bestiality, animal rights organizations which have now inundated the North West region and the entire country may not give their blessings to zoophilia. The reason being that unlike with homosexuality or lesbianism where those involve agree before the act,  the case of zoophilia is outright rape of the animals especially as an animal must be tethered before a human being could have his way without the consent of the helpless animal.
