From
Peter Adi Fonte in Kumbo
The Ber Bridge in Jakiri subdivision that links the West region and Bui
division is at the verge of collapse. The basement of the bridge at Ber has
been eroded by water year by year following unwanted exploitation of sand by
sand exploiters in that river. The divisional delegate of public works for Bui
division, Forsuh Wilfred Jing following reports received effected a visit to
the bridge on the 15th of September 2012 to see things for himself.
The bridge, according to eye witness accounts is barely existing. “The Ber
Bridge is now a death trap”, a public works official cried out aloud to this
reporter.
According to the SDO for Bui, Ngone Ndodemesape Bernard who visited the
bridge in company of the DO for Jakiri, Ngembane Daniel Ekole on the 17th
of September 2012, cracks were found all over the bridge. Ndodemesape on the
spot gave instructions to the sub delegate of public works for Jakiri to write
warning sign boards and put there for vehicles not to venture to use the road
as the bridge can give way at anytime.
Vehicles traveling to Jakiri subdivision for now can only get there by
passing through Bangolan via Babessi to Jakiri and Kumbo in Bui division. It
will be recalled that of recent, a serious flood swept through Babessi causing
serious damage to rice farms and crops besides rendering some families
homeless.
