YES for eligibility also gaining
increasing support
From Ashu Tidings in Douala
As the countdown to the Cameroon
Cooperative Credit Union League – CamCCUL general assembly draws near, more
credit unions across the country have continued to vote overwhelmingly for the
3-year mandate; renewable twice and a unanimous YES for eligibility.
In the West region, all the credit
unions except one have unanimously voted for a 3-year mandate; renewable twice
and overwhelmingly endorsed the YES for eligibility. As stated above, only the
SCECUDS credit union in Dschang; in the West region had a slide victory against
a 3-year-mandate, renewable twice.
It should be recalled that credit unions
in Meme, Kupe Muanenguba and Ndian divisions in the South West region already
held their general assemblies and massively voted for a 3-year-mandate
renewable twice and YES for eligibility.
In the Centre, Littoral and South
regions, credit unions have continued to endorse the Buea declaration. Just to
name a few, PECTEN Credit Union just recently held their general assembly and
voted 98% for 3-year-mandate; renewable twice and YES for eligibility.
FIMAC, Sangmelima, Manju, Mungo, Dibombari, Edea and COFEMCED Credit Unions
equally held their general assemblies recently and massively voted the YES
eligibility option and for the 3-year mandate; renewable twice.
Over in the North West region, Oku,
Kitiwum, Kikiakiliaki, Mbessa, Ashing, Fundong, Njinikom, Manchock Credit
Unions and all Credit Unions in Donga Mantung division have met and okayed the
3-year mandate; renewable twice and voted YES for eligibility.
The exception in the North West is the
Kimbo Cooperative Credit Union where thanks to the confusion by some top union
officials, gullible members were convinced to vote against the 3-year-mandate
renewable twice.
However, the decision of the Kimbo Cooperative
Credit Union was considered a none event because they did not respect the
minister’s guidelines in holding their deliberations. This means that the Kimbo
Cooperative Credit Union vote against a 3-year-mandate renewable twice has been
twisted and thrown into the waste paper basket.
Again, the big news is that credit
unions across the country have unanimously adopted the model bi-laws that were
voted in Buea.
There is of course, no gainsaying the
fact that news that credit unions across the country have unanimously endorsed
the Buea declaration is like sour wine in the mouth of some newspaper
publishers who entered the fight simply because they wanted to escape paying
the huge debts they are owing credit unions in Bamenda.
