Hon Abel Mukete says FAV is back bone of Red Cross

From Maxcel Fokwen in Kumba
The former CPDM MP for Kumba, Hon. Abel Mukete has intimated that the strength of the humanitarian organization Red Cross lies in the works of First Aid Volunteers (FAVs). Abel Mukete made the declaration in his capacity as the president of the Meme Red Cross organisation Saturday October 6, 2012 at the Kumba city council chambers during a meeting with Red Cross volunteers and instructors aimed at putting in place a technical committee that  is charged with the assignment of supervising and carrying out all the activities of the organization in Meme.
Speaking at the meeting, the president encouraged members to be focused and concern with the activities of the organization highlighting that “it is only a big man who does voluntary work”.
During deliberations, members corroborated each other in reiterating the need to respect the principles on which the Red Cross was belt and to maintain a clean sheet in their dealings with the population. The Red Cross members equally resolved to go in for a uniform dressing code and called on their president to champion a course pivoted on wiping out illegal first aid post  that exploit the public.
In a chat with the press, Hon Abel Mukete told journalists that, “from my experience, the First Aid post is being used for livelihood and the economic well being of the people running them and therefore we have to treat the issue with care to ensure that, it does not  disrupt the people concerned  and that is why I am taking it step by step , trying to find a way the people can survive economically…. The symbol of the Red Cross is an expression of voluntary actions”.
The erstwhile MP furthered that he would liase with the ministry of public health to see how some of these posts with trained nurses could get authorisation to operate given that, according to him, “we live in a difficult world and so we should be our brothers’ keeper”.
Asked if he was using his refined political background to foster humanitarian work, Hon Abel recoursed that, it is a matter of doing a service to humanity and it gives him pleasure in being part of the Red Cross.
