CamCCUL : More credit unions endorse 3 yr-mandate; renewable twice

From Ashu Tidings in Douala
CamCCUL President Musa Shey Nfor
As credit union chapters across the national territory continue to hold their general assemblies in prelude to the announced CamCCUL extra ordinary general assembly; the one thing that stands out is the overwhelming endorsement of the Buea declaration.
The Buea declaration, it should be recalled, had voted a three year-mandate; renewable twice and YES for eligibility. And so the winning trend in favour of the Buea declaration is what has dominated all chapter credit union general assemblies that have so far held.
Needless announcing that the development is a bitter pill to swallow by a handful of misguided members of the network who are bent on reaping from where they did not sow.
Meanwhile like has already been the unanimous vote of the various credit union chapters, one of the biggest chapters, MUPECI, with over 14000 members; comprising 11 branches with headquarters in Douala held its general assembly over the week end and voted massively in favour of the Buea declaration.
The meeting that took place at the Hotel Residence La Palace, Saturday, saw in attendance the representatives of the ministries of finance, agriculture and administration.
MUPECI members were hailed by the administration not only because of the serenity and the transparency that characterized the business of the day but also because of their good financial performance which is of course as a result of their belonging to the strong CamCCUL network.
In unanimously endorsing the 3-year mandate; renewable twice and voting YES for eligibility, MUPECI members insisted that the present CamCCUL board members deserve support and praise for managing the institution’s finances over the years without any traces of embezzlement and or mismanagement.
In apparent reference to a handful of network members with inordinate ambitions who they qualified as prophets of doom, MUPECI members were unanimous that CamCCUL is so-cherished a baby to be entrusted into the hands of any Tom, Dick and Harry.
“CamCCUL is not for those who are yet to learn how to handle and manage big money. We can’t entrust our hard-earned finances into the confidence of beginners and those with doubtful morality… we are voting for continuity”, MUPECI members at last week end’s general assembly meeting were over-heard saying.
Also over the weekend, the Kumba Central Cooperative Credit Union, with over 6000 members held their general assembly and unanimously endorsed the Buea declaration.
Four other credit unions in the Magba area, two credit unions in Nkambe and four additional credit unions in the West region also held their general assemblies and voted for a 3-year mandate; renewable twice and endorsing the YES for-eligibility option.
The Menji credit union chapter general assembly meeting that was supposed to hold at the weekend was postponed because the SDO for Lebialem had banned all public manifestations from September 28 – October 2, 2012. The SDO’s order, it must be said, came on the heels of the SCNC-planned manifestations on or before October 1, 2012. The Menji credit union chapter, The Guardian Post has been reliably informed, is in favour of the Buea declaration.
Worthy to note that the level-headed Mezam SDO acted on time to stop the holding of the Azire Cooperative Credit Union general assembly that was scheduled to hold before the date that was accorded them by the minister of finance. The move that was masterminded by a handful of some power-thirsty Azire cooperative Credit Union members was intended to distabilise public peace. But unfortunately for them, the Mezam SDO discovered their devilish intentions and banned the gathering.

  1. Great post. I was looking up credit unions in Oklahoma city to get a little more information when I came across this post. This was a very interesting read, thanks so much for sharing.
