From Mua Patrick Mughe in
Buea
The Buea council has engaged an initiative to regulate the
activities of unauthorized churches and noisy bars within the municipality
which reportedly have been obstructing the quiet enjoyment of inhabitants. The
decision was the focus of last September 30 extra-ordinary session of the
council which was chaired by Fako chief executive, Zang III at the deliberating
hall of the Buea council.
During the extra-ordinary session, the councillors equally
endorsed a municipal deliberation prohibiting the re-emergence of drinking
spots situated 1KM from the campus of the University of Buea.
As part of the council’s move to alleviate the perennial water
problem faced by inhabitants in Buea, a memorandum of understanding was signed
with some Chinese partners which will enable them commence the immediate
drilling of bore holes within the Bokwango Na’anga area and around the Buea
general hospital. The contract to last one year was signed on behalf of the
council by the mayor, Ekema Patrick Esunge and Gao Silai, managing director of
the Chinese group, Ets Dongbe Dajing.
The council, during the session equally committed itself to
enhance hygiene and sanitation by taking a strong stance against the placement
and sale of perishable goods on naked ground in the markets. The council
will within a defined time frame complete some projects within the municipality
to include the Chapel at the Buea regional hospital and water projects in the
Bonavada, Bojongo and Buea central Areas.
In a press release issued at the end of the session, the council
announced the construction of a flower market beside the Buea regional hospital
as well as the building of a municipal restaurant to serve the entire
population of the municipality.
Councillors at the meeting hailed the vision bearer of the
council, Ekema Patrick for initiating giant development projects within the
municipality. The mayor for his part called on the councillors to remain committed
towards the development of the municipality which they insisted lies in their
hands.
Meanwhile, the supervisory authority, Zang III was categorical
that should the council continue at the same pace, the municipality will soon
become an enviable one. Zang III then reminded the councillors of their task as
development propellers in their communities.
