Violent rain wrecks havoc in Kumbo

From Peter Adi Fonte in Kumbo

A heavy down pour, accompanied by strong winds that swept through Kumbo town last Sunday for close to three hours, has destroyed the roof of some houses as well as business premises.
The speedy wind was so destructive that it uprooted some big trees, signboards of offices and business premises; either destroying them completely or twisting it to total deformity.
According to some victims who gave their names as Austin and Florence, their business premises situated at Dr. Lyonga Street in Tobin were seriously damaged by the wind.
Items like bags of rice and ‘garri’ were exposed to the rains as the owners had to look for other enclosures to pack their commodities.  Through leakages on the roofs of some business ventures, exercise books on sale were soaked as was the case with one computer documentation centre situated at Sakah Street in Tobin.
At Bajing quarter in Tobin, the embankment of a neighbour to the chief of service of administration and finance in the divisional delegation of secondary education Bui, Maishu Lionel Malung, collapsed as a result of the down pour, completely destroying the roofs the neighbouring toilet.
Some plantain stems and other economic plants that refused to obey the dictates of the wind were brought down.
Offices and business premises were obliged to renew their sign boards as a result of the strong winds. So far, the degree of damage caused on property has not yet been estimated.
